The Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest public transport project.

By 2030, Sydney will have a network of four metro lines, 46 stations and 113km of new metro rail.
Sydney Metro is revolutionizing the way we travel through Australia’s largest city, connecting Sydney’s north-west, west, south-west and greater west with fast, reliable inbound and outbound metro services with fully accessible stations.
The metro route includes the active Northwest Metro Line and three projects under construction:
Southwest city & region
Western area
Western Sydney Airport
Sydney Metro enhances public spaces with vibrant transport precincts, acting as a catalyst for innovation and better connectivity.
The metro route creates and supports new communities, improves amenities and delivers new integrated station developments.
The Sydney Metro is Australia’s most technologically advanced railway and Australia’s only accessible driverless train service.
When the Sydney Metro is extended into the central business district in 2024, the metro line will stretch from Sydney’s booming North West to Sydney Harbor, via new metro stations in the CBD.
There will be maximum capacity for a metro train, one every two minutes in each direction in the city, a level of service never before seen in Sydney. The new Sydney Metro line will have a target capacity of approximately 40,000 customers per hour, similar to other metro systems worldwide. Sydney’s current suburban system can reliably carry 24,000 people an hour on each route.
Sydney Metro, along with signaling and infrastructure upgrades across the existing Sydney rail network, will increase the capacity of tram services into the Sydney CBD – from around 120 hours today to 200 services after 2024.
