As the sixth largest significant urban area in Australia, the Gold Coast boasts the fastest growing economic output in the country. More than A$25 billion in infrastructure investment will continue to transform the region into a globally competitive city dedicated to business and employment growth for at least the next decade.

With the highest employment to population ratio outside of our capital cities, the Gold Coast is attracting a growing number of interstate and international residents who are drawn to the lifestyle and opportunities.
Additionally, a pipeline of infrastructure investment worth more than AUD 25 billion will continue to transform the region into a globally competitive city dedicated to business and employment growth for at least the next decade.
These fundamentals have helped deliver a staggering 24% average apartment price growth over the past five years, and with limited new apartment supply, this trend is set to continue. The strong combination of employment and population growth, falling apartment supply and record infrastructure investment create the perfect conditions to maximize the ‘easy edge’ in residential real estate investing.
Now is an exceptional time to invest in a quality product positioned in a premium, high-demand position, ensuring you benefit from strong value increases.
An overview of the Gold Coast’s key infrastructure projects that will help underpin its continued growth and investment opportunities is provided below:
Health and Knowledge Precinct | 5 billion Australian dollars

Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP) is a new health and innovation hub scheduled for completion by 2030. The 200 hectare site is a unique global business location for high-tech industry development, research collaboration and future job creation. Supported by AUD 5 billion in infrastructure investment, including a world-class university and two major hospitals, Precinct is a new step for Australia’s leading lifestyle city.
GCHKP already has the world-class Griffith University, the Gold Coast University Hospital, a major Australian teaching hospital, and the cutting-edge new Gold Coast Private Hospital. The region provides a uniquely dynamic, collaborative environment for global health and research companies and institutions to invest, convene and grow.
Southport City Center Rejuvenation | 5 billion Australian dollars

With the highest concentration of employment and the largest population center on the Gold Coast, Southport CBD is undergoing an exciting period of transformation with public or private investment worth over AUD 5 billion creating a strong foundation for sustainable future growth. An integral part of the development is the Gold Coast’s Chinatown with an AUD6.8 million investment to renew the popular area.
M1 Pacific Highway Upgrade | 1 billion Australian dollars

As part of the Queensland Government’s AUD6 billion commitment to upgrade South East Queensland’s major road and transport network by 2020, the M1 Pacific Highway receives an AUD1 billion investment that will deliver more than 700 jobs. The upgrade includes provision for the future rail network and will reduce congestion, shorten travel times and ensure the area can cater for future traffic growth.
Master plan of Star Broadbeach Island | 2 billion Australian dollars

The multi-billion AUD masterplan features internationally renowned hotel brands, parks, residential, dining, retail and an AUD100 million revamp of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is set to compete with Brisbane’s AUD3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf development, which will provide 3,000 jobs once operational and bring more than AUD2 billion worth of investment into the local economy through tourism.
Gold Coast Inner City Railway | 1.6 billion Australian dollars

Once completed, this city transformation initiative will deliver a world-class transportation system while increasing development and investment opportunities along its corridor. Creating 760 jobs, the AUD712 million Phase 3A from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads is currently under construction and expected to open in 2021. Additionally, as part of the Gold Coast’s bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games, city rail extension to the Airport is also being accelerated.
Gold Coast Airport Expansion | 500 million Australian dollars

One of Australia’s fastest growing airports, this game-changing expansion includes five new airbridges, a three-level terminal and additional space to accommodate additional flights and passengers. Currently under construction, with the new terminal expected to open mid-2021, direct benefits include more than 1,500 jobs over the next two years. Set to double the 6.6 million passengers it currently welcomes each year, by 2037 the airport precinct will contribute AUD818 million annually to the region and support around 20,000 full-time jobs.
The Spit Masterplan | 205 million Australian dollars

This long-awaited renovation sits on 138 hectares of green space incorporating more than AUD205 million in commercial development. The site will also serve as a catalyst for upgrades to privately controlled sites such as Marina Mirage, Sea World, The Sheraton Grand Mirage and Mariners Cove.
The masterplan includes an intramural railway, diving in an underwater sculpture garden, high-end restaurants and bars, 130 hectares of open and conserved green space, plus an AUD7.7 million superyacht berth at Southport Yacht Club.
Sea View Tourist Pier | 463 million Australian dollars

Also planned for the headland is a pier designed to accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships. Expected to generate approximately A$3.1 billion in tourism for the Gold Coast over the next 30 years, the terminal will incorporate a 950m offshore wharf, a wharf that includes mooring facilities, passenger berths and landing facilities.
Home of the Arts | 118 million Australian dollars

Once completed, Home of the Arts is one of the Gold Coast’s leading venues for live performances, lakeside parks, cinema and the arts.
This is a particularly exciting, transformative milestone for the Gold Coast. If you are thinking of investing, this is the city you need to consider seriously and quickly.
