6. The World’s Largest Coral Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders. It is the largest coral reef system and the only living organism visible from space.

To give you an idea, that’s bigger than the UK, Netherlands and Switzerland combined!

The snorkeling and diving here is a world-class experience you can’t find anywhere else.

You can visit the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, a UNESCO World Heritage wonder, by taking a snorkeling or diving day trip from Cairns or experiencing live board diving.

7. Slow culture and top festivals

Australians are said to have a really laid-back culture. Everyone calls each other friends, and they never miss a vacation. Australians have festivals for everything, whether it’s food, art, film, music or whatever.

Many of their major festivals attract worldwide attention due to their pageantry, quirky vibe, and over-the-top style.

And have you seen their New Year Celebration on Sydney Harbor? This one can’t be missed! See how thousands of fireworks are launched from the Sydney Harbor Bridge, next to the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Plus, did you know you can climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge?! I tried!

8. Incredible cities

Believe it or not, Australia has a larger land area than Europe, but has an incredibly low population density. In fact, most Australians (about 85%) live in cities along the coast.

Confused by many as its capital city, Sydney offers one of the most attractive and vibrant cosmopolitan atmospheres in the country. Sydney’s beach lifestyle, vibrant nightlife and vibrant culture make it a must-see destination for any trip.

Fun fact, Canberra is the capital city of Australia and it is an interesting destination for architecture and museum lovers.

In the south, Melbourne’s charming European sophistication, food scene and cafe culture make it a perfect contrast to Sydney while still being within a vibrant city.

Cairns’ enviable location between the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest makes it the perfect destination for adventurous travellers.

The charming coastal city of Adelaide is punctuated by stunning beaches and beautiful parks, while quiet and secluded Darwin to the north offers some great local markets.

And last but not least, in the west, Perth is a laid-back and sophisticated city that combines great food, art and beach fun.

The beauty of Australia’s cities is their sprawling location between mountains, rivers and vast plains, giving us so many wonderful things to do, see and experience around them.

9. Have You Tried Australian Wine?

If you love wine, there are plenty of great wines to enjoy in Australia, especially Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Some of the major wine producing regions in the country include the Hunter Valley near Sydney, the Barossa Valley near Adelaide and Margaret River near Perth.

You can take a day trip to any of the wine regions from nearby major cities, or if you want to do it like the locals, buy some wine at the store and drink it in the park.

10. G’Day Mate, ‘ow yer goin?

This is an interesting reason. Do you pay attention to their rhythm?

Even though Australia is an English-speaking country, you will find that the Australian version of English is somewhat strange. Their language is considered a minor tourist attraction for foreigners as it includes a lot of Australian slang.

Having said that, you should be prepared to ask for clear repetition as their pronunciation is not always easy to understand.

As you can see, Australia has so much to offer. This is a destination not only worth visiting but more than once to see its many contrasting cultures, diverse cities and experience wild adventures.
