MAP: Good news for those who are planning to buy a home for the first time in the State of Queensland (QLD): The State Government has just approved a policy of exempting registration tax for new real estate, significantly reducing financial pressure and creating favorable conditions for realizing the dream of settling down.
Stamp duty exemption policy when purchasing new real estate for first-time home buyers in the State of Queensland
According to the Law amending the Tax Laws (Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill), from May 1 this year, first-time home buyers in Queensland will be completely exempt from stamp duty when buying new real estate.
This amendment is an important step that contributes to reducing the pressure on living costs and providing financial support to help first-time home buyers easily access the real estate market.
It is estimated that about 3,000 first-time home buyers will benefit from this policy each year.
What will be the impact of the registration tax exemption policy when buying a home for the first time?
According to statistics from the Queensland Taxation Department, home buyers will save tens of thousands of dollars in stamp duty:
- Toowoomba: Save AUD 24,730 on new build house and land packages.
- East Brisbane: Buyers can save AUD 29,500.
- Logan-Beaudesert: About 6,960 AUD.
Opportunities and limitations of the policy
The exemption from registration tax contributes to reducing the financial burden, helping many people have access to new housing.
However, according to some real estate experts, the actual effectiveness of this policy may be limited because the pace of new home construction is currently slower than average.
Ms. Antonia Mercorella, CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), said:
“The exemption from registration tax may not have a strong impact if the supply of new housing is not enough. In addition, the government should also expand this policy to people aged 55 and over, to increase housing supply on the market.”
Conclusion
This is the ideal time to own real estate if you are planning to buy a home in Queensland. The stamp duty exemption policy brings many benefits to both investors interested in the Australian real estate market in general and QLD real estate in particular.
